A1. Digital Audio Broadcasting, or DAB, is the technology behind terrestrial digital radio.
DAB+ is an upgraded version of the technology used to bring you DAB digital radio.
A DAB audio signal is encoded in MP2 (the ancestor to today’s MP3 format). A DAB+ audio signal is encoded in aacPlus (strictly, aacPlus HE v2). Your iPod uses AAC as standard; aacPlus uses a number of clever techniques to make it more efficient, so audio sounds better at lower bitrates. Roughly, 48kbps DAB+ sounds the same as a 128kbps DAB signal.
A DAB+ audio signal also includes slightly better error correction, which might mean a reduction in 'bubbling mud' or other problems in poor reception areas.
Apart from that, there are no differences. DAB+ and DAB use the same transmitters, same multiplexing equipment, and so on, and DAB and DAB+ signals can happily live on the same DAB multiplex. A DAB+ radio will also happily decode DAB signals as well (although a DAB radio won’t decode DAB+). Many DAB radios on sale today will cope with DAB+ automatically, or will prompt you with instructions on how to upgrade (which could be as easy as typing a code in, or downloading some new firmware).
Q2. Why are we switching to DAB/DAB+?
A2. FM is full and has reached the limit of its capabilities and like other media, radio needs to have a digital future to meet listeners' expectations. Digital broadcasting is more efficient and we need to invest now in infrastructure for the future.
Digital radio gives you more of what you love, More content (the stations you have now, and digital-only stations); ease of use (find your favorite station at the touch of a button, track and artist information onscreen); and digital features (digital quality sound, internet radio, and the ability to pause, rewind and record).
Q3. Which countries are using DAB / DAB+?
A3. World DAB (the organisation in charge of the DAB standards) collates up-to-date information on the global rollout of DAB/DAB+ digital radio, including coverage, services on air, receivers, automotive sector, trials, regulation, marketing and emergency broadcasting.
More than 30 countries provide DAB, DAB+ and / or DMB broadcasts, either as a permanent technology or as test transmissions.

Q4. What is the advantages of a DAB / DAB+ Radio?
A4. DAB / DAB+ have variable bandwidth and more stations. Its reception quality is better than FM; it has less unlicensed ("pirate") station interference.
Q5. Are there any DAB+ stations in the UK?
A5. Yes. The UK's first national DAB+ stations launched on 29 February 2016 on the new national DAB commercial multiplex, Sound Digital, as part of a line-up of 18 national DAB services. Jazz FM, Fun Kids and Magic Chilled will all be delivered nationally using DAB+.

Q6. Can I use my existing FM or TV aerial?
A6. Probably not, but give it a try. Some DAB stations can be received by plugging a standard FM or TV aerial into a DAB radio, but the best reception will always be via a DAB aerial. There’s no guarantee your existing aerial will work.
Q7. Which DAB+ solutions does XTRONS provide?

A9. The XTRONS external DAB device is compatible with an ever increasing range of Android units. Please check the product description page. You just need connect the USB stick with the USB port of the head unit, place the DAB+ antenna in the optimal position of your car and click the DAB+ icon on head unit.
