Troubleshooting Bluetooth Connectivity Issues on XTRONS Units

Postby xtrons » Thu Sep 26, 2024 8:01 pm

If you're having trouble connecting your XTRONS unit to your phone via Bluetooth, follow the following steps to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Wiring and Antenna Placement

Antennas: Your XTRONS unit comes with two blue antennas on the supplied camera cable – one for Bluetooth and the other for WiFi. Ensure the camera cable is securely plugged into the correct port on the back of the device.
Note: Some devices may not include this extra camera cable with Bluetooth and WiFi antennas. Please refer to the device that was actually purchased.

Extend the Antennas: To enhance Bluetooth reception, you may need to extend the Bluetooth antenna.
Here’s how:
1) Obtain a piece of insulated wire to extend the antenna (a thin wire should suffice).
2) Carefully disconnect the Bluetooth antenna from its current connection point on the unit. Note the connection type and orientation for reattachment.
3) Strip a small amount of insulation from both ends of the wire.
4) Attach one end of the wire to the original connection point on the unit securely. Depending on the connection type, you may need to solder or use a suitable connector.
5) Route the other end of the wire to a location where you can position the extended antenna. Ensure the location is free of obstructions or interference.

2. Remove Paired Bluetooth Devices

From the paired device list on the XTRONS Android screen, delete all other paired Bluetooth devices. The unit may be attempting to connect to another device instead of your preferred one.

3. Reset and Reconnect Bluetooth

If your phone has other saved Bluetooth connections, reset them and reconnect to your XTRONS unit from scratch.

4. Restart Both Devices

Restart the XTRONS Android unit and the phone you’re trying to connect. Often, rebooting both devices can help resolve connectivity issues.

5. Automatic Connection with CarPlay or Android Auto

If you’ve been using wireless CarPlay or Android Auto, note that the unit will automatically connect to those services when activated, which can prevent it from connecting to other Bluetooth devices at the same time.

To prevent automatic connection:

Open the PhoneLink or Zlink app on your XTRONS unit.
Go to "Settings".
Disable the option for "Automatic Connection".

6. Keep Phone Screen in Bluetooth Settings

When attempting to establish a Bluetooth connection, ensure that your phone's screen remains in the Bluetooth settings menu throughout the entire process. This step is crucial to ensure a successful connection.
