No Power Troubleshooting / What to do when unit has no power?

Postby xtrons » Thu Jan 04, 2024 2:56 pm

In this guide i will try to show you what to do if you unit gets no power, either since the beginning, or lost power during use.

Scenario A: Unit Doesnt power on since installation

Most often it is the wiring that is incorrectly connected, faulty canbus, or loose connection thats causing unit not to turn on.

Things to check:

    1. Make sure the unit is connected as per Wiring Diagrams.
Make sure all plugs and connectors are connected properly, without any loose connection.

    2. Check the fuse
There is a fuse located right under the power socket of the unit (Q series has no fuse)

    3. Check if the unit gets power.
Most unit has Battery+, ACC and Ground cables on the connector. Connect the unit as per Wiring diagram, and use multimeter to check if there is power to the unit on Battery+ (Usually yellow cable) and ACC (usually red cable). Make sure your car is ON when testing. You can also locate which cable is Battery and ACC on the label on the top of the unit.
TIP: How to use Multimeter.

Example (Q series):

NOTE: Most Q series power plug on screen side has only Battery+ and GND cable responsible for power, so when checking with multimeter, check only this particular cables. If there is power to the unit, but not turning on, Then there is problem with the unit itself. If there no power on the ISO, check the fuse on the ISO cable
NOTE 2: MTK series, such as QAB, machines come with ACC cable. If the Unit does not turn on, connect the ACC to the cigarette lighter port. If it still doesn't work, check the fuse on the ISO cable.
[/list]
If there is no power going through the cable, either the power cable pin from car desnt align with the power cable pin of the ISO, or the ISO itself is faulty.
If power goes through the cable, and pins align as they should but the Q series still wont turn on, then there might be issue with the unit itself

    4. Check if the pins of the original car connector align with the pins on the xtrons ISO cable.
By that, i mean make sure that Battery+, ACC, and Ground cable from car goes to Battery+, ACC, and Ground on Xtrons ISO.

    5. Check if unit turns on without CANbus
Most dedicated units comes with CANbus box for communication between car and the unit. The power on these unit is controlled by the canbus. If canbus is faulty, it wont know that you turned the car on - making unit stay off. To test if the unit will turn on without canbus, you need to connect ACC and Battery+ pins together.

Example:
On photo below 2 cables are marked that need to be connected together. You can use tweezers and just touch the connectors.

If the unit turns on, that means the canbus is faulty, and you need to replace it.
If the unit doesn't turn on, despite power being delivered through the cables, and with canbus line shorted, then there is problem with the unit or cable/connections/fuse itself.

Scenario B: Unit stopped turning on some time after installation

In this screnario, the most common fault is CANbus box, so if your unit stopped turning on, test if its Turning On Without Canbus. If it does, you need to replace your CANbus box. To do that simply contact us, or the seller you bought the unit from. Also Check the Fuse
