Steering Wheel Control Guide

Postby xtrons » Wed Dec 06, 2023 12:31 pm

In this guide, you will find how to set up steering wheel on xtrons units, and diagnose issues.

There are 2 ways xtrons units manage the SWC, through canbus and through wires
Most of the units manage it by canbus, and there is not much that user has to do. The most common issue here is lack of connection, and bad settings.

Canbus way
If your SWC is managed by canbus, you will need to make sure this cable is connected to the unit, and the canbus line is connected to this cable (unless not required, example below):

As you can see on the photo above, the canbus cable is plugged into the unit, and the canbus line coming from ISO cable is connected to the canbus cable (Connection nr 40)

Same here, you can see on the photo above, the canbus cable is plugged into the unit, and the canbus line coming from ISO cable is connected to the canbus cable (Connection nr 13)

As you can see on this example, the unit doesnt utilize canbus cable. Instead, the unit has special DEDICATED SWC line on the iso (plug nr 34):

Most of the canbus controlled steering wheel issues arise because customers forget to plug that canbus cable, and can line together, so make sure its connected as per Wiring Diagrams (Those can be found on this forum. navigate HERE, and find your series)

Sometimes it happens that the unit dont have correct CAN Type selected in Factory settings. If the SWC is controlled by Canbus, then correct CAN type has to be selected in factory settings.
Please go to How to select correct CAN Type for my car, to find out which CAN type has to be set for your car.

Wired Way
If your cars swc is not managed by canbus, then you will need to connect special cables. Those will be KEY1 and KEY2:

Example of TE723L:

As you can see on the wiring above, there are KEY1(nr25) and KEY2(nr28) wires on the ISO

These 2 cables has to be connected to the steering wheel control cables of your car (refer to car manufacturer).

If your car has digital steering wheel interface, you may need special cable provided by Connects2 Company. Visit their website, and find correct cables for your car.
